Our story · Nottingham's family florist
A century of flowers.
A lifetime of moments.
From a family shop to flowers at your door. Five generations of Welch, with the same care at heart.

Five generations. One family story.
Deep roots.
Fresh beginnings.

Our story began with Fred and Dora Welch and a family grocery shop in the 1920s. Over the generations, that small beginning grew into a name woven into the lives of families across Nottinghamshire.
In 1973, flowers became our sole focus. Tony Shaw brought his passion for flowers and horticulture to the business, passing that knowledge and care through the family. Today, his son Gareth leads Welch into its next chapter.
The places have changed.
The care behind every bouquet hasn't.
A look through the family album
Our high-street years.
Familiar windows, flowers on the pavement and so many conversations. Our Long Eaton and Nottingham shops are part of the story we carry with us.

A familiar face on the high street.
Our Long Eaton shop served generations of customers before closing in 2020.

Flowers, plants and a warm welcome.
Our Nottingham shop also closed in 2020. These photographs celebrate a much-loved chapter of Welch.

Then, now, always Welch
Part of the neighbourhood.
Behind these shopfronts were bouquets for birthdays, thank-yous, celebrations and goodbyes. It is that connection to our customers that still shapes everything we do.

The craft at the heart of it
Some things
never change.
The colours, the textures, the small finishing touches. We have always loved bringing flowers together to make something that means something.
Our experience has taken us from everyday bouquets to displays at events such as the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Whatever the occasion, the same attention goes into the flowers we make for you.

Flowers on the move
A little Welch.
A long way.
Our name on the side. Something special on its way. This photograph from the family archive captures another chapter of Welch out on the road.
Today, that journey continues from Stapleford: flowers prepared with care, ready to brighten someone’s day.

A new chapter
New home.
Same family. Same heart.
We moved into our Stapleford premises in 2016. Both our Long Eaton and Nottingham stores closed in 2020. Today, everything is prepared and dispatched from our custom-fitted delivery warehouse in Stapleford, Nottingham.
It is our home for making flowers, caring for every detail and getting your order ready for its journey. A different way to work, with the personal service that has always made Welch, Welch.
Our former shops are no longer open. Our Stapleford premises are our preparation and delivery base; website collection is not available.

Part of our community
Flowers with heart.
People at the centre.
In 2023, we were proud to help BBC DIY SOS at Treetops Hospice in Risley. Here is our Managing Director, Gareth Shaw, with flowers for the project.
It is a special moment in our story, and a reminder of the people and places that make this community ours.
A family business.
A community we care about.
The family behind the flowers
Family roots.
Club colours.
Away from the flowers, family time often means rugby. Gareth, his wife Emma and their children Henry and Alice at Twickenham, cheering on England in their Long Eaton Rugby Club colours, with Gareth’s trusty Welch hat completing the line-up.
